Is my Resume important?

So, how many of us have used a dating site? Come on, don’t be shy. Yeah! You! Now I am not trying to single you out but what did you put on your bio? What was your intention? What type of person were you looking to get to know? We use our bios not only to introduce ourselves but also to portray an image of ourselves to the world. An image we think they will find more appealing. Now of course there are not only dating sites with bios, there is Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. All of these platforms are used to connect with people. Now think of a resume.

Building a solid resume can be tricky. But, pro tip? Think of it as a dating profile. Yup, you read that right. What company are you applying for? And what are they looking for? How can you make them swipe right on your profile out of the hundreds of others they see or read a day?

Cater to the employer. That is what you do. Let’s say you are applying for a sales job. Would the employer likely pick you out of other candidates if your skills say, “knowledge about banking services and responding to e-mails”? I think not likely. Instead try, “people person, good conversation starter, and proficient in cold calling”. Do you see the potential? I know this was not a very specific set of skills, but you do get the point.

Now, depending on the job you are applying to change the look or template of your resume. If the job is a graphic designing job, link your web portfolio, including examples of your work. Make your resume aesthetically pleasing. You are a graphic designer after all, right? But if the application is for a call center, keep it concise, minimalistic, and straightforward. But the main priority is what you write in it. Remember, cater to the employer and what you think they are looking for. Make them swipe right!
